Janus Films will be releasing a new 4K restoration of the landmark concert film “Monterey Pop,” which was directed by D.A Pennebaker and produced by Lou Adler, in celebration of the event’s 50th anniversary. The film will premiere in New York City on June 14, and in Los Angeles and across the country on June 16, timed to the anniversary weekend. Taken from the original 16 mm camera negatives and supervised by director D. A. Pennebaker, and featuring, for the first time theatrically, the 5.1 surround sound mix engineered by legendary music producer Eddie Kramer, this POP pops, capturing the film’s earthshaking performances in all their glory.
